Critically acclaimed Blackbird is home base for Executive Chef Paul Kahan, winner of the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in 2013 and Best Chef of the Midwest in 2004. Chef de Cuisine Perry Hendrix joined Kahan in the kitchen in 2014, and together they craft elegant and imaginative Midwestern cuisine, showcasing farm-fresh ingredients to create a menu both classic and utterly approachable.  Managing Partner and Owner, Donnie Madia and Architect Thomas Schlesser crafted a unique and timeless atmosphere in 1997, earning the James Beard Award for Best Restaurant Design and Best Restaurant Design Graphics in 2002.

The Violet Hour serves artisanal cocktails in the heart of Wicker Park. Rooted in pre-Prohibition style libations, the James Beard Award-winning bar program features a seasonally rotating cocktail list, as well as an extensive selection of approachable and sought-after spirits.

The Violet Hour’s facade features an ever-changing mural with a singular light bulb designating its entrance. Divided into three salons, the interior features high-backed blue leather chairs clustered around small white tables that are illuminated by candlelight. A marble bar spans the length of the room and features cornflower-blue walls, white crown molding, crystal chandeliers and hardwood floors, giving the space an elegant feel.

An homage to beer, pork and oysters, The Publican's eclectic menu is inspired by simple farmhouse fare in a space evocative of a European beer hall. Executive Chef Paul Kahan and Chef de Cuisine Cosmo Goss have developed a network of purveyors to supply the restaurant with hand-selected and sustainably-raised fish, seafood and pork. Rustic dishes anchor the menu along with an extensive international beer list developed by partners Donnie Madia, Eduard Seitan and Terry Alexander, featuring 100 ales, lagers, stouts and ciders. The Publican is designed by James Beard Award-winning Thomas Schlesser.

Big Star is a bourbon and beer-focused, taco-slinging, late-night honky-tonk in the heart of Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Executive Chef Paul Kahan and Chef de Cuisine Julie Warpinski’s menu, inspired by authentic Mexican street food, is complemented by an extensive house-selected single barrel bourbon program.  Housed in a defunct 1940's gas station, the taqueria’s soundtrack of classic country and rock & roll is selected and spun by our bar staff.
